Why angular contact suits the wheel end
An angular contact bearing's raceways are offset so the balls meet the rings at an angle, letting one bearing carry radial load and axial load together. A wheel bearing needs exactly that combination — the car's weight radially, cornering thrust axially — which is why the angular contact form is the default cartridge bearing in the family.
Single row and double row
The catalogue publishes both forms. Single-row bearings are used in pairs or in designs where the housing sets the arrangement; double-row bearings package both rows in one cartridge with the contact angles opposed, which is the form most press-in wheel applications take and the form the DAC series is built from.
| Form | Arrangement | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Single row | One ball row, angled raceways | Paired or housed arrangements |
| Double row | Two opposed rows in one cartridge | Press-in wheel hub applications |
Checking an order in this group
State the OE number and whether the old unit is single or double row. The two are not substitutes even at the same bore: the double-row cartridge sets its own internal clearance, while a single-row pair depends on how it is mounted.
Where this group sits in the range
Angular contact is one of three type groups in the wheel bearing family, next to tapered roller bearings and the DAC series. If the old unit unbolts rather than presses out, the part belongs to the hub unit family instead.
