The part that keeps the belt honest
A belt tensioner applies a controlled force to the belt so it grips every pulley in the drive as it stretches with age and temperature. The family page counts the tensioner line separately from the pulley line, and this series is that line: complete tensioner units and their pulley assemblies for accessory belt drives.
Serpentine drives dominate the line
Most modern accessory drives are a single serpentine belt with one automatic tensioner, so 'serpentine belt tensioner' is the application wording most inquiries use. The wording is matched to this series; the tensioner is identified by the engine application and its cross-reference.
| Point | Note |
|---|---|
| Function | Applies and holds belt tension |
| Common wording | Serpentine belt tensioner |
| Ordered by | Engine application or cross-reference |
| Not this part | Idler pulleys, which only guide the belt |
Failure signs buyers quote
A tensioner is ordered when the belt squeals, when the tensioner arm flutters, or when its pulley bearing runs dry and rough. Because the whole drive is open during the job, tensioner orders often travel with the idler pulleys on the same list.
Tensioner or timing?
This series covers the accessory belt drive. The timing belt's tensioning parts are supplied inside the timing belt kits, not from this line — if the application is the timing drive, the kit family is the right page.
